Your role and responsibilities

The Field Application Engineer (FAE) will work closely with the local sales team and should be skilled in applying MV/LV switchgear, switchboards, MV/LV motor control, panelboards, transformers, and technologies that mitigate arc flash incidents. These skills are crucial across various sectors including healthcare, data centers, industrial settings, utilities, and commercial construction. In this role, you will serve as the primary technical contact for consulting engineers, end users, EPC firms, and design-build customers. Your objective will be to ensure that ABB products and solutions are preferred or accepted as manufacturers of choice in project specifications. The work model for the role is: remote (Li-Remote) This role is contributing to the Electrification Distribution Solutions division in the Philadelphia area. You will be mainly accountable for: •Collaborating with consulting engineers, end users, and EPC customers to understand electrical project requirements, provide design support, assist with product selection, offer value engineering, and educate stakeholders about ABB solutions to secure their inclusion in project specifications. •Acting as the local expert on product applications, including medium voltage (up to 38 kV) and low voltage switchgear, MV/LV motor control, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, power monitoring systems, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), automatic transfer switches (ATS), as well as solutions for short circuit coordination and arc flash risk reduction. •Conducting customer education sessions and presentations, demonstrating strong public speaking skills and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to engineers.

Qualifications for the role

  • B.S. degree in engineering; preferably electrical with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the electrical distribution industry or a master’s degree with four (4) years of experience in the same.
  • PE certification is a plus.
  • Previous field, plant or design engineering in electrical power systems at major oil and gas companies, electric utilities or industrial facilities.
  • Knowledge of industry codes and standards; ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NEMA, NFPA 70E, UL.
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
