BBC Storyworks

BBC StoryWorks is the award-winning commercial brand studio within BBC Studios, responsible for strategy, development, production and delivery of content-led commercial campaigns across our international digital and television news offer, as well as representing other BBC brands as required.

The BBC StoryWorks team works with commercial partners to create engaging and compelling content campaigns designed with the BBC's desirable American and global audience in mind. Our custom content solutions amplify advertisers' key messaging strategies. In addition, the team enable sponsorships of the BBC's world-class editorial output, creating an alignment for our partners with the BBC's trusted editorial voice.

Job Purpose

To ensure all branded content produced for clients by the BBC StoryWorks team adheres to all relevant regulatory requirements for advertising content including the Advertising and Sponsorship Guidelines for BBC Commercial Services, and relevant national and local advertising laws and practice (e.g. the Advertising Standards Authority CAP Code) as well as the BBC's editorial guidelines.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Provide compliance support and oversight at all stages of compliance for BBC StoryWorks Americas and global production and publishing activity as required.
  • Subject to approval, to act as Advertising Standards Guardian for the BBC StoryWorks Americas and global teams.
  • Assess and advise on evidence to substantiate all claims made in content.
  • Conduct due diligence on prospective clients.
  • Offer advice and suggestions to the BBC StoryWorks teams to ensure general proposals and specific treatments are fully compliant.
  • Provide internal training in compliance to team members.
  • Through a full understanding of the BBC's Editorial Guidelines and Advertising and Sponsorship Guidelines for BBC Commercial Services, ensure all content created and published by BBC StoryWorks is within our approved activity.
Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5 +years of working in an environment focusing on advertising and editorial guidelines and/or compliance policies.
  • An in-depth knowledge of the area in which the role operates, including audiences, competitors and industry trends.
  • Extensive experience of critical research or journalistic skills.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the wider regulatory landscape.
  • Strong experience of developing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Highly developed planning and organizing skills. Ability to manage several areas of work at one time, prioritizing, delivering consistently to deadlines and reacting positively to changes and conflicting priorities.
  • Able to demonstrate strong editorial judgement in a fast-moving environment, and a thorough knowledge of branded content and legal guidelines.
  • Can demonstrate the ability to consider a range of problems and use own judgement to apply effective, time critical solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to provide alternative points of view with evidence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An extensive knowledge of BBC's advertising and editorial guidelines and/or compliance policies.
  • Understanding of the importance of the BBC's values in accuracy and impartiality.
Compensation

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $70,000 to $80,000. The actual base salary offered depends on the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and geographic location of the position.This range is not inclusive of a competitive bonus, flexible, hybrid working schedule & benefits including but not limited to: 100% BBCS covered medical & dental insurance, vision, & 401k match.
