Union Stationary Engineer
An exciting opportunity awaits a licensed Stationary Engineer in Kansas City, KS to become part of our facilities team! The role is for a 2nd shift, with working hours from Thursday to Monday, 2 PM to 10:30 PM.
We are interested in speaking with you if you possess a stationary engineer's license and have experience in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing all systems' equipment within an industrial facility.
Job Duties and Tasks:
- Perform preventive maintenance on all base building and critical system equipment.
- Install and repair plumbing, piping, tubing; wire single and three-phase motors; run conduit; pull wiring to machinery, motors, operating parts, etc.; install and rebuild pumps and motors; install and rebuild air compressors; heat exchangers; replace bearings in all types of motors; replace seals on pumps; install and repair piping, valves, filters, hot water systems and associated controls; assist other mechanics and operators with major repairs and maintenance of buildings and equipment.
- Install, repair, and maintain electrical controls, switches, and motor controls.
- Monitor operation and maintain refrigeration, chilled water, and air conditioning equipment; boilers, heating, ventilating, and hot water equipment; pumps, valves, piping, and filters; other mechanical and electrical equipment; record readings as necessary to ensure proper operation of equipment; responsible for reporting any problems or malfunctions.
- Identify and prioritize major and critical alarms and respond to them by taking the necessary measures, as well as documenting these measures.
- Analyze water samples taken from our equipment and from the utilities.
- Check and monitor the emergency generators during power outages.
- The physical environment is noisy, hot, and highly stressful. Expect to encounter multiple interruptions during the workday.
Requires:
- This role requires a significant amount of "wrench time." Candidates must exhibit technical expertise in electrical maintenance and troubleshooting, as well as versatility in other areas to complete daily and weekly tasks successfully.
- Availability for "on call" duty after hours in case of emergencies is mandatory.
- Frequent stair climbing for inspections and emergency procedures is necessary.
- Qualified Stationary Engineers should be competent and certified to independently perform all tasks safely and correctly, which are essential for operating and maintaining Cleaver Brooks natural gas-fired boilers and steam systems.
- Tasks include, but are not limited to, starting and shutting down boilers, adjusting operations to meet demands or conditions, managing building heat exchangers, resolving alarms, warnings, trips, non-starts, abnormalities, and out-of-spec conditions, monitoring and recording parameter alarms, conducting water sampling and steam/water treatment, cross-tying cooling towers, and starting, shutting down, mothballing, operating, and validating equipment.
- Applicants must possess a Journeyman rating with 5 years of experience in a heavy industrial environment and hold a Missouri Operating Engineer Certificate. All operators are required to have a Universal CFC Certificate.
- Proficiency in information systems, including email, automated building systems, and operator control panels, is also required.
