What we do

The Cybersecurity Department at The Trade Desk strives to protect the people, process, and technology used to further our goals for the open internet.  With hybrid infrastructure that includes major public clouds (Amazon Web Services, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) and on-premise systems in datacenters around the world, we are dedicated to maintaining robust security protocols to protect our diverse assets across various regions.

What you’ll do:

  • Working alongside our Security Operations and Compliance teams, this leadership role will be responsible for the strategic planning, guidance, definition, and design of enterprise-wide Security Engineering initiatives while leading the growth and evolution of various Security Engineering functions at The Trade Desk.
  • You will be responsible for the establishment, optimization, and leadership of the Application Security, Infrastructure & Endpoint Security, Security Posture Management, Human Security, and Identify & Access Management functions in support of both The Trade Desk's products and internal systems.
  • You will manage a team of security engineers and provide technical guidance to ensure the successful implementation of security measures.
  • You will oversee the recruitment, training, and development of security engineering personnel supporting the above functions.
  • Provide technical leadership and management of Security Engineering projects from conception through deployment and handover.
  • Implement design reviews to evaluate security controls and identify opportunities to enhance The Trade Desk's security posture and alignment with the overall business strategy.
  • Build/procure, implement, and manage enterprise security tools effectively.
  • Maintain and enhance cybersecurity tools and ensure full adoptions and peak operational performance.
  • Manage enterprise security tools (such as EDR, SIEM, VM Tools, Deception Technology, etc.); ensure availability and efficacy of tools, vendor and stakeholder engagements, continuous enhancements in the overall security coverages and tools operations, etc.
  • Drive consideration of cybersecurity tools and datasets to enhance detective and preventive control sets.
  • Assist Cybersecurity leadership with technical direction and vision for implementing The Trade Desk's Cybersecurity strategy.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive vision and strategy for enterprise-wide security engineering initiatives to support the organization effectively and securely in meeting specific business technology needs.
  • Communicate efficiently across all levels of management to articulate vision and direction.
  • Act as a mentor to all members of the Cybersecurity team, if required.
  • Collaborate with our corporate functions, including Internal Audit, Legal and Compliance, Privacy, and Sourcing, to ensure that The Trade Desk maintains a strong cybersecurity posture.
  • Drive continued operational excellence ensuring the Cybersecurity Team provides great service to its internal customers.
  • Understand technical security issues and the implications to The Trade Desk and be able to communicate them to management and other business leaders.
  • Understand emerging security technologies and determine the appropriate use within business applications.
  • Maintain and enforce The Trade Desk’s cybersecurity policies, standards, baselines, and secure design documentation.
  • Develop and implement security engineering standards, procedures, and guidelines that ensure the security, reliability, and availability of the organization's systems and solutions.
  • Regularly assess the effectiveness of security measures and identify areas for improvement through regular security audits and assessments.

Who you are:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Cybersecurity, Information Assurance or other related discipline or 12+ years of previous technical experience, specifically security engineering and architecture experience.
  • Ideal candidates will be considered a technical expert and a proven leader.
  • A minimum of 7+ years of experience in security engineering, with at least 4+ years in a security leadership role.
  • 5+ years hands-on experience in managing enterprise security tools such as Vulnerability Management Tools, Security Orchestration solutions, Security Information and Event Monitoring (SIEM), endpoint security tools,
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams of security engineers.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, specifically the ability to communicate within the context of the intended audience, whether that be senior executives or highly technical engineering resources.
  • Hands on technical experience with compliance and regulatory frameworks and how they affect architecture designs and reviews.
  • Proven track record of successfully designing, implementing, and managing security systems and solutions for large-scale and complex organizations.
  • Management and/or leadership focused security certifications are a plus. (CISSP, CISM, C|CISO, etc.)
  • Experience leading a distributed team that provides 24/7 operational support and excellent service delivery is a plus.

NY, CO, CA, and WA residents only: In accordance with NY, CO, CA, and WA law, the range provided is The Trade Desk's reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role. The actual amount may differ based on non-discriminatory factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and location. All employees may be eligible to become The Trade Desk shareholders through eligibility for stock-based compensation grants, which are awarded to employees based on company and individual performance. The Trade Desk also offers other compensation depending on the role such as sales-based incentives and commissions. Plus, expected benefits for this role include comprehensive healthcare (medical, dental, and vision) with premiums paid in full for employees and dependents, retirement benefits such as a 401k plan and company match, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, well-being benefits, reimbursement for certain tuition expenses, parental leave, sick time of 1 hour per 30 hours worked, vacation time for full-time employees up to 120 hours thru the first year and 160 hours thereafter, and around 13 paid holidays per year.  Employees can also purchase The Trade Desk stock at a discount through The Trade Desk’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.

At the Trade Desk, Base Salary is one part of our competitive total compensation and benefits package and is determined using a salary range. The base salary range for this role is$199,000—$249,000 USD
