BAE Systems do offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements, however it is expected on our Summer Intern programme you will be required to attend your site up to 5 days per week. Please note, this may be subject to change in line with the needs of the business. The hybrid working arrangements including which days you are required to work on site/remotely will be outlined by your line manager.

Salary    £23,100 Pro Rata

What you will be doing As a Weights Engineer Summer Intern you will be involved in tasks supporting of the Company’s programme for submarines and surface ships. This involves calculation and monitoring of weights and centres from project concept to vessel delivery. You will be responsible to senior staff for the monitoring and reporting of a portion of the vessel.

Duties and Responsibilities •    Preparing data for technical and production departments to assist them in the handling and transportation of units, sub units, modules and rafts. •    Undertake functional design and/or provide specialist advice and qualification of their scope of responsibility and provide evidence for acceptance and fitness for purpose. •    To obtain confirmation beyond reasonable doubt by review, surveillance and audit those assumptions, underpinning engineering data, analysis methodologies, and interpretation of results are valid. •    To produce evidence in support of qualification, legislative requirements and safety justifications and provide specialist support for associated activities. •    To contribute to identification and rapid closure of issues emerging from all product lifecycle stages and to manage the resulting change embodiment activities. •    To liaise with both internal and external customers as required ensuring that their requirements are adequately supported and that their needs are fully considered and incorporated where appropriate and agreed.

Skills As a minimum requirement you’ll need to be on track to obtain, a 2.2 in your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. 

To be considered for this role you must be returning to university to complete your degree.

All applicants must as a minimum achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard. Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 to 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.
