Start Date   23rd June 2025

BAE Systems do offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements, however it is expected on our Industrial Placement programme you will be required to attend your site 3-4 days per week. Please note, this may be subject to change in line with the needs of the business. The hybrid working arrangements including which days you are required to work on site/remotely will be outlined by your line manager.

What you will be doing

The role of Undergraduate Aerospace Engineer covers multiple different Engineering disciplines, such as Aerodynamics, Design, Materials, Electromagnetics, Structures, Integration, Airworthiness, Support, Mission Systems, Information Systems, Test Engineering and Flight Systems.

This placement will provide the perfect package of experience for a passionate Intern looking to gain valuable skills and an insight into a worldwide defence organisation. There is also the possibility of returning on to the Accelerate Graduate programme based on a recommendation from your placement manager, your performance, aspirations and Graduate Programme potential.

Duties and Responsibilities

Throughout their placements, the individual will communicate with and work alongside subject matter experts on a daily basis to broaden their understanding of engineering in the aerospace defence industry. This is a fantastic learning opportunity allowing the individual to “hone in” on a specific engineering discipline and build a strong understanding of this subject before continuing their respective degree at University. •    Develop an understanding of the discipline and contribute to the daily tasks within the team. •    Broaden your knowledge of the engineering lifecycle and where your discipline supports the overall delivery of a product/service. •    Communicate with team members and various stakeholders with professionalism and start to build up a network of contacts. •    Engage in all activities with enthusiasm and a willingness to contribute to towards the task at hand. •    Maintain a safe working practice at all times.

Above all enjoy the hands on learning experience and use the time wisely to demonstrate the values and behaviours the company expects from its professional engineer.

Skills

As a minimum requirement you’ll need to be on track to obtain, a 2.2 in your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in any STEM subject.

To be considered for this role you must be returning to university to complete your degree.

All applicants must as a minimum achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard. Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 to 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.
