Job Title    Industrial Placement Electronic Systems Systems Engineer

Location    Rochester (Kent) 

Start Date    23rd June 2025

BAE Systems do offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements, however it is expected on our Industrial Placement programme you will be required to attend your site 3 days per week. Please note, this may be subject to change in line with the needs of the business. The hybrid working arrangements including which days you are required to work on site/remotely will be outlined by your line manager.

What you will be doing Working together in collaborative teams to solve complex problems in one of our product areas such as; head up and head worn displays, flight and maritime controls, active stick and throttle controls, mission computing, hybrid and electric power systems. Co-operating as part of a diverse team across lifecycle and disciplinary boundaries to yield positive solutions that are sympathetic to customer needs and considerate of other interdependent parties. Being trusted to take responsibility for your own work, developing at your own pace and committing your support and enthusiasm for working together in support of others. Nurturing your creativity and ability to develop innovative technical solutions with the guidance and support of colleagues.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Communicating and collaborating to understand our customers’ needs 
  • Co-operating to develop, validate and manage product requirements 
  • Contributing to the development of system architectures containing connected sub-systems using a Model Based Engineering (MBE) approach
  • Creating theoretical analyses and sharing the findings
  • Carrying out modelling of behavioural scenarios and system performance to understand system operation and interactions, thereby informing improvements
  • Conducting laboratory test of real time systems comprising interdependent technical disciplines such as electronic, mechanical, optical and software components

Skills As a minimum requirement you’ll need to be on track to obtain a 2.2 in your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a STEM subject. 

To be considered for this role you must be returning to university to complete your degree.

All applicants must as a minimum achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard. Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 to 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.
