GPN with Peter Scott-Presland

Peter Scott-Presland is a gay historian, playwright and journalist for 45 years. In addition to working for Capital Gay and other LGBT magazines, he has run Homo Promos Theatre Company for the last thirty years.  During lockdown Homo Promos has kept going with three innovative series of Zoom play readings, many of Presland's own work.  The current series runs till 31st March, just over a year after the first began.  Anyone is welcome to come and watch any Tuesday at 8pm.  This is the link to all readings:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89411476163

Many readings have been from A GAY CENTURY, a huge cycle of 17 operas, vignettes of gay life 1900 - 2001, one of the most ambitious music theatre ventures ever conceived.  Music is by respected composer and arranger Robert Ely, but the texts of the operas stand up as plays in their own right, as the readings have shown.  They cover high tragedy, domestic drama, farce, social comedy and of course queer politics.  The first ten [1900-1962] are being published in book form towards the end of February.  One of them, 1900: Two Queens is getting a Zoom reading as part of the Shrewsbury LGBT History Festival on Sat Feb 20th.

Peter, who has been a GPN speaker on several occasions, will be talking about this grand operatic historical cycle on Zoom, and reading an extract or two.  He'll be discussing how they came about, what they're trying to achieve, and how he hopes to get them put on eventually [30% of the music still to be written].

The presentation will be followed by a Q & A session.

After this all participants have the opportunity to introduce themselves briefly after the talk. Like "Hi, I am J-F and organise events, let me know  if you need help with any forthcoming celebration, meeting, incentive, conference and event."
