Join us to celebrate the Chinese New Year/ Lunar New year, and hear from the lived experiences of our LGBTQ+ colleagues of Chinese descent.

We will have the pleasure of welcoming Qiu Yan from Queer China UK for a key note followed by a panel discussion.

Chinese LGBT activist, rich experience on gender inclusive education, youth empowerment, media and law advocacy practice. In 2014-16 I has pursued three lawsuits against the Chinese Ministry of Education and a higher education publishing house over textbooks that describe homosexuality as a “psychological disorder”. (BBC Report about my activism: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-37335802 ) Meanwhile,founded the Youth Grassroots Action Alliance empowering the young generation. Since 2019, I start the entrepreneuership journey in London, founded Queer China UK(registered as Queer International Ltd), exploring the intersection between equal rights and social entrepreneurship.

Prior to Yahoo, she was the bureau chief for Europe, Middle East, and Africa for tech and media brand Quartz and was a founding editor of Business Insider UK newsroom where she grew and led the group from 4 people, to a newsroom of 40+ in the UK. She's also worked at a range of titles, such as the Wall Street Journal Europe and CNBC and is a regular broadcaster at BBC, TalkRadio, and LBC and has taken part in a number of speaking events such as Mobile World Congress, One Young World, and the World Economic Forum in Davos.
