Co-designing Equity - Arup Annual Lecture Pride 2023

Too many people think that public space is not for them. The result of this is that BAME and LGBTQ+ communities are often absent, under-represented, invisible or even victimised within in our cities.

So how can we design for marginalised groups and use our projects for positive change to social mobility?

This was the question that kicked off the conversation at our London campus, where our LGBTQ+ employee network, Connect Out, hosted their annual lecture in collaboration with our racial equity network, Connect BAME.

Our participatory and interactive event event explored the intersectional lived experiences of LGBTQ+ and BAME people and identified barriers or challenges which have been overlooked in design processes.

Everyone was welcome to attend, listen and share their stories - which made this an insightful, collaborative and memorable evening to kick off our Pride activities.
