Demi Lovato is Non-Binary, Changing Pronouns to They/Them

Singer and actor Demi Lovato has come out as non-binary, saying that they will now identify using they/them pronouns. Writing on twitter, the Sorry (Not Sorry) singer said:

"Today is a day I'm so happy to share more of my life with you all,"

"I am proud to let you know that I identify as non-binary & will officially be changing my pronouns to they/them moving forward."

Demi said they came to understand their gender identity after spending time doing "healing and self-reflective work" over the past year.

Using they/them as pronouns "best represents the fluidity I feel in my gender expression"

"Every day we wake up, we are given another opportunity & chance to be who we want & wish to be. I've spent the majority of my life growing in front of all of you… you've seen the good, the bad, & everything in between." the singer added.

Since being launched into the starlight by the Disney Channel movie series Camp Rock, which also propelled the Jonas Brothers into the public eye, the singer has been open about their struggles with mental health and addiction as their career continued upwards and upwards. After an overdose in 2018 left them "minutes from death", the star also disclosed allegations of sexual abuse against them whilst they were working at Disney aged only 15.
Lovato has been a strong LGBTQ+ ally prior to coming out, including activism around the trans community and famously tweeting that trans rights are human rights.
