Gabon Becomes The 70th Country To Ban Homosexuality

Gabon has officially confirmed it has made gay sex illegal, making it the 70th country in the world to “criminalise consensual same-sex sexual relations,” the ‘Independent’ reports.

The penalty for same-sex relations is now up to six months in prison and a fine of what is equivalent to £6,400.

The ban happened in July but was not widely reported but now, a government official who has requested to remain anonymous has confirmed the ban.

“It has further sent the LGBT community underground and has created harassment,” said Davis Mac-Iyalla, an LGBT+ activist who talked to two Gabonese men arrested under the new law.

“The corrupt police now use that, arrest people and then people have to bribe their way out.”
