LGBT History Month: Events Not to Miss

This LGBT History Month at myGwork, make sure you're not missing out on some of the fantastic events we have running throughout February. Be sure to check back as this is updated with more events!


February 10th

14:00 GMT: Kath Duncan Equality Civil Rights Network Online Talk: Join the KDECRN for this seminal talk with Ray Woolford about the key role played by working-class women in LGBT+ history, and the need to reclaim their legacy. 

16:00 GMT: Being Chinese and LGBTQ+, Lived Experiences: myGwork is hosting a panel this LGBT+ history month for Chinese New Year! Join us as we talk to staff from Mercer, Verizon, Bank of America, Queer China UK, GSK and Macquarie about their experiences being LGBT+ and Chinese. 

16:00 GMT: The Log Books: Stories from Queer History: The Log Books is a podcast set up to explore and tell the stories stored in the logbooks kept by callers at Switchboard, the LGBT+ charity, from 1974 to 1991. In these books, operators kept the stories of the people they spoke to for records. Now, these stories are finally being reheard. 


February 16th 

17:30 GMT: Paul ‘The Sinnerman’ Sinha – Comedy Night Fundraiser: Join Macquarie Group's LGBT Network, Pride & Fusion, for this fantastic comedy fundraiser with Paul Sinha - doctor, comedian, and The Chase's Sinnerman!  

February 17th 

16:00 GMT: Managing Career Change: In this session, Lau Viggo Albjerg will be talking about managing a career change and job searching during a pandemic, as well as discussing how the job market is set to change. Interested in a new direction? Check it out! 

17:00 GMT: Student Bites with AstraZeneca: We'll be joined by the company that has spent the last few months fighting against the Pandemic, to talk to them about the experiences of LGBT+ staff, opportunities for graduates, and how you can shine in your application. 


February 18th 

16:00 GMT: Networking Strategy and Job Search: Job hunting can be hard, especially in a global pandemic. Join us as we discuss how to make the most of professional networks, and how to build the connections you need to increase your opportunities and help you step into your next career.

16:00 GMT: LGBT 101 and Intersectionality: In this webinar, we'll be discussing what it is to be LGBT+ and intersectional. We'll be talking language, identities, and how you can do more to be more inclusive and better informed about all matters LGBT+. 


February 22nd

17:00 GMT: CV Writing: Join Rafal Szianawski, professional coach, as he talks about what makes a good CV and how to stand out when submitting a job application. There'll be a Q&A afterwards where you can ask all the questions you've had about CVs!


February 23rd

17:30 GMT: Diversity and Inclusion Experiences at AB inBev: Join this event with AB inBev where they'll be talking about their leadership experiences and initiatives undertaken to strive towards a more welcoming and inclusive workplace. 

18:30 GMT: GPN with Peter Scott-Presland: Join the Gay Professional Network when they sit down to talk to Peter Scott Presland, LGBT+ historian, playwright, and journalist to discuss the work he has been doing during the pandemic and plans for post-lockdown life. 


February 24th 

16:00 GMT: Being LGBTQ+ in Sports: In this informative panel, we'll be talking about the experiences LGBTQ+ people have had in sport, including homophobia and transphobia, coming out stories, and experiences at school. Don't miss it!


February 27th

19:00 GMT: The History of LGBT+ Rights in the UK: In this fun and interactive quiz, the theme will be exploring the rich and varied history of LGBT+ people where you're guaranteed to learn something along the way. Register now!
