New Pride Lanyards at Arup this Trans Awareness Week

Over the past couple of years, Arup’s Connect Out network have been raising the profile of trans and non-binary lived experiences - a part of the LGBTQ+ community which has been seen to be relatively underrepresented compared to others.

One initiative already in place was the addition of the turquoise, pink and white colours of the trans flag to the ceiling lighting in our London office during Pride Month this year. We’re pleased to say that this is what welcomes our colleagues, clients and suppliers now when entering the building all year round.

This Trans Awareness week, we have launched brand new Pride Lanyards that include the colours of the progress flag. These have signified a move towards better representation of not just our trans and non-binary colleagues, but also our queer BAME colleagues with the addition of brown and black elements.

Why Lanyards?

Our new Pride Lanyards help increase visibility of our trans, queer, BAME colleagues, friends and families.
Colleagues visibly wearing our Pride Lanyards can help demonstrate that our workplace is queer-inclusive. They signpost to other colleagues that:

- “You can talk to me freely without worry of discrimination”
- “I will do all I can to get any support you need”
- “This is a safe inclusive space and you are not alone”

We are keen that bearers of a pride lanyard are committed to the above and have vocalised support for the LGBTQ+ community. Therefore, in order to collect a lanyard, all our colleagues will make an inclusion pledge. We are so happy that we already have a huge number of pledges.
