Our people, drivers for innovation - the Just Eat graduate scheme

Lucy Rout (centre) joined our UK Marketing department through 2016’s Graduate Scheme

By Lisa Hillier, Chief People Officer

From a team of twelve in 2001, we now employ over 2,900 people in 12 markets across the globe. As well as supporting and developing our existing employees, we are committed to bringing emerging talent into our business. That’s why we launched our UK graduate scheme. It’s been running for a few years now and it is something I am hugely passionate about.

Offering two or three year programmes within specialist teams across our business, the scheme creates opportunities for graduates in a diverse range of areas. From Software Engineering, Product Management and Data & AI, to our UX, Commercial and Finance teams, our grads innovate and influence both local and global business operations.

Innovation is a key driver of our success - innovation in our technology, in our business operations and in our product development. As we grow, maintaining our agility and rapid innovation to deliver what our customers and restaurants want is vital. It’s our people who are uniquely positioned to understand the intersection of business operations and product development pipelines that enable us to meet customer demand. While you can’t innovate in a bubble, we know that new growth should be spurred from within.

Just Eat has an incredibly open culture. We’re about making everyone feel comfortable, sharing ideas and trying out new things. We are passionate about supporting our growing teams, and invest significantly in nurturing the talent we already have across our global business - empowering them to provide excellent service to our customers and Restaurant Partners, and giving them the tools, the knowledge and the support they need to innovate rapidly.

Since the UK scheme was established, 35 graduates have joined Just Eat and we’re really proud that 34 are still with the business.

Berk Mollamustafaoglu, one of the successful applicants to the 2016 scheme, works in the Software Engineering team, based in Bristol. He quickly established himself as a vital member of the tech team, leading aspects of our iOS app rebrand, and helping to deliver a number one rating on the Food & Drink category of the App Store, by developing the code for a new app rating prompt.

Lucy Rout, who joined our UK Marketing department through 2016’s Graduate Scheme, has already completed rotations in ECRM, Partner Marketing, Consumer PR, PPC and has just started in Marcomms. In partnership with our tech team, she led the development of the Just Eat Ordering Wand, a ‘magic’ wand concept, harnessing cutting-edge Chirp™ soundwave technology that enables customers to summon their favourite takeaway with the swish of a wand. Lucy also supported on events including Just Eat’s three-day summer Food Fest, led activations at the X Factor auditions, and helped develop our nationwide X Factor campaign.

We’re now recruiting our 2018 Graduate cohort, with applications open across six key business areas, to bring a new generation of talent into the pipeline.

Wherever you're needed at Just Eat, and wherever you’re based around the world, you'll be challenged, motivated and accountable. From top to bottom we've built a vibrant team, with each member aware of their role and value. We look for curious-minded people who want to make an impact and build a career. As well as retaining and developing our existing colleagues, we want to meet and inspire the people with the potential to become tomorrow's leaders.
