Pakistan Original Web Series To Feature Same-Sex Relationship

A new web series, written and directed by British Pakistani film-maker Asim Abbasi, is pushing the boundaries of Pakistan TV and will feature a same0sex couple for the first time. Same-sex relationships are illegal in Pakistan, but it is hoped that this small screen exposure will help bring a new perspective to those who watch it. 

‘Churails’ follows the story of four survivors of abuse and mistreatment as they form a detective agency and strive to seek out cheating husbands and deliver justice. 




According to ‘Gay Times’, in a recent interview the writer and director described the intention behind the new web series: “Churails is a story about women on the fringes of society,” said Abbasi. “In Pakistan, being a woman is the equivalent of being a sexual or ethnic minority because of the power dynamics of patriarchy. The series is very culturally specific, but also very universal.”


Churails will premiere on ZEE5 this August. Watch the trailer below:
