Tory MP Nick Fletcher Wants Pronouns Removed From All Schools: “We’re Confusing People”

Tory MP Nick Fletcher said pronouns were a “problem” and should be removed entirely from schools to “protect the children”.

His comments were made during an interview with Times Radio, in which he was asked whether Education Secretary Gillian Keegan should intervene in the case of Joshua Sutcliffe: a 33-year-old mathematics teacher who was banned from the classroom by the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) over a series of misconduct allegations, including misrepresenting a trans student.

Fletcher stated that Keegan should step in, adding, “I think we should eliminate pronouns from all schools.” Teaching children fact-based ideologies in school is not what we should be doing, and pronouns are part of that problem.”

Times Radio presenter Aasmah Mir then asked the Don Valley MP in South Yorkshire if it was possible to keep pronouns but not blame people for being guilty of gender misidentification.

Fletcher claimed it “prompted people to lie” and confused them, saying: “[No]. I don’t think we should keep the pronouns there. We shouldn’t do that, it’s not right.”

According to ‘UK Daily News’, Fletcher said that students should only be matched by the sex on their birth certificate and observed at birth.

“When people turn 18, when they want to make that decision [to use gender-affirming pronouns] It’s entirely up to them,” he added.

Fletcher, who has been an MP since 2019, has claimed his views are about child protection, same-sex spaces and sport – echoing the beliefs of anti-trans and gender-anti-violent activists.

The case against Sutcliffe has been under review by the TRA since January. He was accused of misrepresenting a transgender student. He admitted that using a child’s preferred pronouns went against his religious beliefs. He misrepresented a student at the school he taught at and during an interview on ITV This morning Program.

In addition, he is said to have declared that same-sex marriage is wrong.

As the Telegraph reported, the TRA concluded that it was “more likely than unlikely” that he publicly misrepresented the pupil at Cherwell School in Oxford and failed to treat him with “dignity and respect” and his well-being to protect.

All complaints against him were upheld, resulting in his ban from teaching, the news agency said.

The decision was made by TRA’s chief executive, Alan Meyrick, on behalf of the Secretary of Education.

Sutcliffe has promised to appeal the outcome of the case.
