Trans man wins Mr. Gay Denmark

A trans man has won the Mr. Gay Denmark competition for the first time in its 17-year history. 44-year-old Niels Jansen won the title for the Scandinavian country and will now go on to compete for Mr. Gay Europe.

For the poster competent of the competition, Jansen presented a nude photograph of himself. He later said: “The process [of self-acceptance] has been long and draining for me. I have chosen to make myself vulnerable and have received nothing but support from my fellow contestants and from the organizers.”

When his win was announced, Jansen received a standing ovation from the crowd. Upon winning he said, “There are lots of ways to be a man, and there are lots of ways to be a gay man, and we are all valid and worthy of respect and love.”
