Trans Rights Groups Join Forces in Thailand For Proposed New Bill
The Transsexual Association of Thailand and The Life Inspired for Transsexuals Foundation have joined forces in Thailand to propose a bill that would guarantee new rights for trans people in the country.
This new law would allow trans people to legally be referred as their correct gender after surgery, it would also cover marriage rights, military conscription and being sent to a prison that correlates with their true gender.
“Let the world see that Thailand is among the leaders when it comes to the rights and freedom for LGBTQI people,” said the president of the Transsexual Association of Thailand.
The two groups submitted the bill to a parliament speaker last week (July 25) and aim to collect at least 10,000 signatures to support the new law.
The law already has many supporters including Tankhun Jitt-itsara, a member of the House speaker’s staff and famous Thai transgender singer Jern Jern Boonsoongnern.
