UK Black Pride Welcomes Over 25,000 Attendees
UK Black Pride, celebrated again this last weekend at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, has officially become the largest Black Pride in the world. According to the Federation of Black Prides, with 25,000 attendees on August 14, UK Black Pride has taken the mantle.
This year's theme was "power," which organizers said was '“a way to honor the power our communities continue to wield to ensure that our communities are defended and supported, loved and protected.” Over 50 big-name performers turned up to celebrate, including Yasmin Finney, along with artists Emeli Sandé, Sadie Sinner, Gok Wan, and Dréya Mac performing a stunning headline set. Further, there were community stalls such as including the Terrence Higgins Trust, Tonic Housing, and the NHS which were administering monkeypox vaccinations free of charge.
Organizer Lady Pyhll told the crowd: "We are here, we’re here to stay. We’re Black and Brown queer people that need to love each other, that need to look after one another, that need to fight the racism, fight the sexism, fight the homophobia, fight any form of discrimination – fight the transphobia!" after announcing the news that UK Black Pride had become the largest in the world.
