School for the trans community opens in Pakistan

A school for transgender students has opened in Lahore, Pakistan. The school, called The Gender Guardian, will offer twelve years of education from primary through to college. It will also offer classes in tech, graphic design, fashion design, computer repair, and beautician work.

The school is funded by the non-profit Exploring The Future Foundation and is founded by Asif Shahzad. The foundation already has plans to open two more schools, one in Islamabad and another in Karachi. Over 40 students have registered for the Lahore school already.

The school has 15 academic faculty members, three of whom are trans. The school will open its doors on April 15th with a lavish open ceremony attended by several big names in the Pakistani entertainment industry.
