DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking an experienced Corporate Counsel for a marketplace legal role to support India marketplace operations, providing comprehensive legal oversight across frontline marketplace categories - including Health and Pharma, Global Selling, and other marketplace verticals - as well as our recently established Finance Operations Support Business, which provides back-office finance and accounting service offerings to sellers through Amazon Digital Services Private Limited. The role involves developing compliance frameworks for third-party service providers operating within our marketplace model. The ideal candidate will combine strong regulatory compliance experience with deep e-commerce and marketplace understanding, demonstrating the ability to navigate India's FDI and marketplace regulations while supporting business growth objectives. Key job responsibilities
Key job responsibilities
•Provide legal counsel to frontline marketplace categories including Health and Pharma, ensuring compliance with sector-specific licensing, labeling, and advertising regulations
•Support Global Selling operations with cross-border trade compliance, customs regulations, and export-import legal frameworks
•Advise on category-specific regulatory requirements such as FSSAI, CDSCO, and Drug & Cosmetics Act compliance for Health and Pharma verticals
•Guide category teams on product listing compliance, restricted and prohibited product policies, and seller onboarding legal requirements
•Support new category launches by assessing regulatory feasibility, structuring compliance playbooks, and obtaining necessary approvals
•Collaborate with category business leaders to address escalations, regulatory inquiries, and enforcement actions
•Monitor evolving category-specific regulations and proactively advise business teams on compliance implications
•Lead legal compliance for finance and accounting service offerings provided to sellers through the marketplace
•Manage regulatory requirements for marketplace-based financial service providers
•Oversee compliance with data protection, FDI, and marketplace security regulations
•Structure legal frameworks for new seller-facing financial initiatives within the marketplace model
•Maintain ongoing compliance and regulatory reporting across marketplace verticals
•Drive legal oversight for India's unique marketplace model of financial tools and services provided to sellers
•Ensure compliance with independence requirements for third-party service providers operating within the marketplace
•Adapt worldwide policies to India's marketplace and FDI regulatory framework
•Review and structure service provider agreements within the marketplace framework
•Support FinOps teams on marketplace compliance and operational efficiency initiatives

Impact and Scope:
•Support multiple L8 leaders and numerous L7 business leaders across frontline marketplace categories and Finance Operations Support Business
•Drive critical regulatory relationships with marketplace and FDI-related authorities
•Manage complex marketplace compliance frameworks across Health and Pharma, Global Selling, and other verticals
•Lead compliance initiatives for marketplace-based financial operations and seller service infrastructure

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

- 7+ years of legal experience
- 7+ years of commercial agreements experience
- Law degree from recognized institution; Bar admission required
- 7-14 years of legal experience in financial services/technology sectors
- Proven expertise in regulatory compliance and policy advocacy
- Excellence in stakeholder management
- Experience in e-commerce or financial technology preferred
