AWS Shield is looking to hire highly motivated, best-in-class Software Development Engineers for our Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) Response Team to drive the security and stability of our network, while innovating the automation of our operations.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of technical leadership, success in autonomously and/or collaboratively driving complex issues to resolution, and an "automation first" mindset. The candidate can also demonstrate in-depth knowledge of software development and/or security, and be able to clearly communicate design best practices to customers to help them scale under load. They will regularly demonstrated operational excellence in supporting a large-scale service provider or enterprise environment, including event management. As a technical leader, the candidate will manage complex stakeholder relationships, both technical and leadership. A love for working with new technologies and pushing the envelope on existing technology is essential!

Key job responsibilities
- Build state of the art incident response systems
- Work with Amazon customers and service teams to diagnose and respond to ongoing events
- Partner with Amazon organizations to proactively assess their DDoS resilience and drive improvements
- Drive improvements in our automated detection and mitigation systems from operational learnings
- Advise leadership about new trends and/or ways to improve our DDoS resilience
- Effectively contribute towards hiring and developing others in the team
- Participate in the team's on-call rotation
About the team
The Shield team builds and operates AWS Shield, Amazon's managed Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) protection service. We safeguard applications running on AWS against network and transport layer attacks, ensuring availability and performance for customers worldwide. Our team develops intelligent detection algorithms, automated mitigation systems, and real-time threat response capabilities. We work backwards from customer needs to deliver always-on protection that scales automatically, defending against the largest and most sophisticated DDoS attacks. Shield protects millions of AWS resources daily, enabling customers to focus on their business without worrying about availability threats.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
- Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems, or experience in professional, non-internship software development
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language, or experience debugging, profiling, and implementing best software engineering practices in large-scale systems
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
