Software Development Manager, Detail Page

We are looking for a Software Development Manager (SDM) to lead and define the technical direction, build an exceptional team, and drive operational excellence at massive scale (multi-million transactions per second).

This role supports Detail Page's core back-end framework, which serves customers by ensuring Detail Page performance and availability and enables Amazon's internal category, country, and program teams to innovate for their customers. The framework handles ~55 billion service calls per week at 99.999% availability. It is a highly federated architecture to which 160+ teams have contributed features, amounting to 3,000+ builds - and one of the largest fleets in Amazon Consumer, with thousands of instances.

The system operates at very large scale with tight latency and availability requirements, making this an ideal opportunity for someone passionate about performance engineering and eager to be on the latest architecture at Amazon. This role requires deep expertise in leading large-scale, Tier-1 systems.

The team works across a variety of front-end, back-end, and server technologies to deliver a scalable and extensible system architecture across all devices and browsers, with low-latency and bandwidth considerations.

A day in the life
Work on a system that customers touch every day, Amazon's detail pages are one of the most visited and iconic pages on the internet. Ability to work with an amazing set of builders across Science, Engineering, Economists, Product Managers, TPMs and exposure to Sr. PEs and Distinguished Engineers in the broader org and across the company. This role will help invent multi-region, highly reliable, low latency architecture.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
