DESCRIPTION:
Amazon Selection and Catalog Systems (ASCS) builds and operates the systems behind the world's largest e-commerce product catalog, enabling customers to find, discover, and buy anything they want. The Offer Projections and Insights team within ASCS owns the diagnostic, analytics, and aggregation services that power offer intelligence at Amazon scale - serving billions of requests daily at single-digit millisecond latency.
We are hiring a Software Development Manager to lead a team building the next generation of offer diagnostic and insight capabilities. You will own:
• Offer Diagnostics & Analytics - real-time and batch systems that surface offer health, buyability signals, and actionable insights to internal teams and emerging AI-powered shopping experiences
• Offer Aggregation Tier-1 Services - high-availability APIs that aggregate and project offer data that powers the Amazon Retail shopping experiences
• Multi-pack Entities - catalog modeling and fulfillment readiness for bulk and multi-pack purchasing experiences
This role sits at the intersection of large-scale distributed systems and emerging AI/agentic commerce. You will define how diagnostic and projection capabilities evolve to support autonomous shopping agents, hyper-local offer accuracy, and contextual catalog experiences while still owning critical services that power the core customer journey. You'll collaborate across multiple VP-level organizations to shape technical strategy and deliver customer-facing impact.
Key job responsibilities
As a Software Development Manager, you will be joining the team that enables Amazon's Catalog to operate at scale. You will be leading a team of software developers solving novel technical challenges, working with tenured Principal Engineers and Senior Software Engineers on a daily basis.
Your responsibilities include:
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including customers, product managers, stakeholders and leaders to ensure the successful end-to-end delivery of product capabilities
• Define your team's roadmap and manage ongoing projects, keeping customers informed, updating senior management, and representing the team to dependencies
• Provide technical leadership including architecture and design discussions for engineering problems and technical deep dives to ensure resolution and root causes of complex issues
• Work with your team, peers, senior management, and senior engineers to implement best practices in software development and operational processes
• Be a leader and pioneer in AI usage and adoption - defining how your team leverages generative AI and agentic technologies to accelerate development, improve operational excellence, and shape the future of intelligent catalog systems
• Develop and grow the members of your team, as well as mentoring others
• Stay current with emerging technologies, particularly in AI/ML and distributed systems, to drive innovation in our rapidly evolving domain
What makes this role unique: You won't just operate existing systems - you'll define the agentic diagnostic paradigm: how AI agents reason about offer availability, diagnose purchase failures, and self-heal catalog issues at scale - while owning the Tier-1 aggregation services that directly power the customer shopping experience on Amazon's detail pages.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategyThe base salary range for this position is listed below. As a total compensation company, Amazon's package may include other elements such as sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
