DESCRIPTION:
In the Amazon Fire TV team, we are creating the most engaging entertainment platform for the whole family, worldwide. Be part of a fast-paced, agile and innovative team who is delivering new experiences to Fire TV devices in a startup like environment.
We are looking for a Senior System Development Engineer to join our Picture Quality (PQ) engineering team in Shenzhen. In this role, you will be at the intersection of software, hardware, and manufacturing - owning end-to-end PQ system quality for Amazon's smart TV devices and driving PQ excellence across our ODM partner ecosystem. You will work closely with display hardware teams, ODM/OEM partners, and cross-functional software engineers to define, implement, and validate PQ standards that set the bar for the industry.
This is a high-impact, highly technical role that requires both deep system-level thinking and hands-on execution. You will not just define standards - you will build the tools, algorithms, and processes that make those standards real.
Key job responsibilities
As a Senior System Development Engineer, you will:
* Own system-level software architecture and integration for Amazon 1P smart TV devices, spanning SoC media pipeline bring-up, display subsystem integration, video processing features, and factory quality workflows.
* Develop and maintain system software components across the video and display stack including video decode, rendering, display output, multimedia framework integration, and related platform services.
* Drive SoC platform bring-up and feature integration in collaboration with silicon vendors, ensuring media and display subsystems meet Amazon's performance and quality requirements.
* Lead cross-functional technical programs with ODM/OEM partners, owning the engineering interface for display and video-related deliverables from early development through mass production.
* Define and enforce system-level quality standards across ODM partners, establishing engineering processes and quality gates that ensure consistent product quality across global markets.
* Conduct deep root cause analysis for system-level defects spanning hardware-software boundaries - including display, video, and multimedia issues identified in factory, field, or competitive benchmarking - and implement systematic fixes at the software or process level.
* Partner with ODM engineering teams onsite in Shenzhen to resolve engineering challenges during production ramp, ensuring readiness for launch.
* Support display certification programs (e.g., Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+) by coordinating with third-party certification labs and internal stakeholders on technical requirements and compliance.
* Progressively develop expertise in picture quality engineering, contributing to areas such as display tuning, calibration pipelines, and color management as you ramp into the domain.
* Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the technical growth of the team.
* Influence product roadmap by providing data-driven technical assessments and competitive analysis.
A day in the life
As a System Development Engineer on the System Engineering team, no two days are alike. You'll tackle new problems and development challenges across different layers, learning and growing rapidly as you go. This role will provide you with exceptional breadth, deepening your understanding of CS fundamentals and best practices in consumer electronics, operating systems, and system architecture. You'll have high visibility across our products and direct connection to customers who rely on Fire TV as their daily streaming device, with abundant opportunities to influence and make a meaningful difference.
