Technical Program Manager - Ground Infra Services,...

United Kingdom , London

DESCRIPTION:

Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of more than 3,000 satellites in low Earth orbit. Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

If you want to tackle complex multi-dimensional problems in countries where Amazon has little to no presence and deliver a solution autonomously, then continue reading.

The Ground Infra Service team defines and manage the delivery of Kuiper ground infrastructure globally. We set the milepost and facilitate the collaboration and communication across the owners to deliver ground capacity through the necessary infrastructures for when the business needs it. For the service launch and planned service expansions this translates to 400+ sites across 60+ countries by 2030. We work backward from the need by date dictated by service launch/expansion to develop unique project plans. We work with teams across a dozen organizations including Legal, Regulations, BizOps, Finance, Network engineering, Ground systems, Entities, Global trade, Operations, Supply chain, Government services, IT and Digital services, Licensing, and Security.

Not only we deliver these sites but we also own their financial health and ensure we stay on budget and support country level P&Ls profitability.

We also identify gaps in scopes impacting our deliverables and volunteer to own the problem solving as new scope for our team or until new owners are identified.

This position may require access to information, technology, or hardware that is subject to export control laws and regulations, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Employment in this position is contingent upon obtaining any required export licenses or other approvals from the United States government. As such, the successful candidate must be eligible to obtain any necessary export licenses or approvals based on their nationality, citizenship, and any other factors considered by the applicable export control regulations.

Key job responsibilities
•Developing country entry strategy independently to provide ground capacity for service launch/expansion. Identifying the right priorities and driving to resolution with partner teams while keeping manager and the team informed
•Traveling internationally to the region up to 25% of the time
•Tracking Gateways delivery health and holding owners across a dozen teams accountable and escalating appropriately when risks arise while maintaining trust
•Managing finances of each site and raising capital requisitions independently
•Coordinating with legal and regulatory entities and proper licenses for each site. Identifying solutions if new mechanisms are needed and driving the changes.
•Effectively navigating operational complexities in different countries, many of which Amazon has no presence in with potential language and cultural barriers. Autonomously driving resolution while keeping manager informed as appropriate.
•Communicating the progress and challenges within the working team and during VP level MBRs
•Continuously identifying strategic and tactical improvement opportunities in our space and driving them to resolution to scale effectively
