Job Summary: As a member of the Leadership Community, this person will support the Finance Director and the wider Leadership Team in all aspects of the commercial financial management of the Martin Brower UK & Ireland business. The role will be responsible across the whole business but will have a focus on the McDonald’s contract which accounts for a significant part of Martin Brower UK & Ireland’s overall revenue.

Underpinning this person’s success will be their ability to forge exceptional relationships with their team and those of their customers, at all levels, coupled with the ability to flourish in a fast moving dynamic environment.

Duties & responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Finance Director UK & Ireland to ensure that his strategic direction for the business is being implemented and driven across the business.
  • Lead, inspire and develop a team of Finance professionals who are based at head office and across the network’s distribution centres in Hemel Hempstead, Basingstoke, Heywood, Coventry, Darlington and Dublin.
  • Take the financial and commercial lead in the running and management of the McDonald’s contract.
  • Create innovative financial strategies, in accordance with the Finance Director, which drive improved business efficiencies across the business.
  • Be responsible for regularly interfacing and developing key relationships within the McDonald’s business.
  • Responsible for strategic planning, the creation of annual operating plans and business performance reviews.
  • Provide and effectively communicate critical financial information to members of both the Martin Brower and McDonald's Leadership teams. This will include regular budgeting and forecasting data and analysis as well as higher level strategic information and recommendations.
  • Deputise and stand in for Finance Director at meetings and events as required.
  • Regular liaison with all functional disciplines across Martin UK & Ireland to share business learnings of where financial improvements could occur, as well as ensuring financial objectives are adhered to, whilst ensuring that the strategic and tactical goals are aligned with those of McDonald’s.
  • Work closely with the Financial Control team to ensure that all statutory and regulatory controls and processes are understood and complied with.
  • Development of systems and procedures to strengthen financial control and operational efficiencies across the whole of Martin Brower UK & Ireland.
  • Support client commercial negotiations and liaison with client supply chain teams and other stakeholders.

Technical competencies:

  • Qualified accountant with between 6 and 10 years’ post qualified experience, ideally CIMA but would also consider ACA or ACCA assuming the person has a very strong commercial background.
  • Experience of the food industry, either from a manufacturing, supply chain or retail perspective.
  • Experience of working in a large, complex and fast-moving environment.
  • A strong team leader, with experience of leading and managing a finance team, ideally at an operating level as well as at a corporate level.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with large sophisticated corporate accounts and able to demonstrate an interactive and successful relationship with those accounts.
  • Effective at communicating key financial information effectively to a financial and non-financial audience. Including leading the developing of reporting enhancements (e.g. balanced scorecards)
  • Experience of management accounts preparation and analysis, budget control, and financial forecasting.
  • Highly systems literate, ideally with experience of a forecasting & planning system, as well as fluency in the Office suite of products.
  • Track record of successfully working within a fast paced, demanding business environment with tight deadlines.
