Role Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and strategic professional to lead our Government Relations efforts in Japan. This role sits at the intersection of business, policy, and societal impact-shaping the external environment in which we operate while advancing our sustainability and growth agenda.
As a trusted advisor to the business, you will drive policy advocacy, engage with key government and industry stakeholders, and help shape regulatory frameworks that impact our operations. You will play a central role in positioning the company as a credible, solutions-oriented partner in priority areas such as circular economy, recycling, climate change, and health & ingredients.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy Development & Internal Alignment Partner closely with cross-functional teams to develop well-defined, forward-looking policy positions aligned with business priorities and global strategy.
Industry Leadership & Collaboration Represent the company in industry associations and external forums. Build strong coalitions with industry peers to shape unified positions and drive collective advocacy where it matters most.
Advocacy & Stakeholder Engagement Design and execute advocacy strategies. Engage with government agencies, policymakers, and subject matter experts to advance evidence-based, practical policy solutions.
Policy Intelligence & Strategic Insight Proactively monitor and analyze emerging policy and regulatory developments, translating complex issues into clear business implications, risks, and opportunities.
Project Management & Execution Lead complex, time-sensitive initiatives with strong project management discipline, ensuring alignment across stakeholders and delivering outcomes.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in public policy, law, economics, political science, or a related field preferred.
Minimum 7 years of experience in government relations, public policy, regulatory affairs, industry advocacy, or a related field.
Native‑level Japanese language proficiency (written and verbal) required.
Business‑level English proficiency (written and verbal) required.
Strong understanding of policy‑making processes and regulatory environments.
Proven experience engaging with government agencies, industry associations, and external stakeholders.
Strong stakeholder management skills, including the ability to build trust and influence without formal authority.
Strong project management and organizational skills.
