We are seeking a talented individual to join the Advisory division at Marsh. This role will be based in Sandton, hybrid and has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Consultant to join our Risk Finance team focused on alternative risk transfer solutions: specifically, captives, cell captives and contingency policies. The successful candidate will lead key client renewals, design and structure alternative risk transfer solutions for large and listed organisations, and convert transactional engagements into value‑adding, strategic risk finance partnerships.
This is a client‑facing role requiring strong technical capability in cell captive structuring and broking, commercial acumen, and excellent stakeholder and coaching skills to grow revenue and uplift the servicing team.
The role offers the chance to work on high‑profile captive and alternative risk transfer (ART) solutions for large corporates across Africa, supported by a collaborative, multidisciplinary team with strong actuarial and broking expertise. You will also be able to collaborate across Marsh's global network to leverage international learnings and best practice, while growing your skills and influence within the wider organisation.
We will count on you to:
Client delivery & renewals
Lead a portfolio of cell captive and contingency policy renewals, owning commercial outcomes and client satisfaction.
Collaborate with actuarial, claims and broking colleagues to review loss forecasts, validate assumptions and determine optimal retention/transfer structures.
Source and negotiate terms with underwriters and captive facilities; recommend and secure the most appropriate solution.
Draft, review and finalise policy wordings, cover letters and supporting documentation; ensure compliance with insurance regulations and advise on tax/accounting considerations relevant to cell/captive solutions.
Manage premium collections, remittances and reconciliation with underwriters and claims departments.
Maintain and submit monthly paid and outstanding claims reports and review aggregate burn/runs.
Advisory & solution design
Structure alternative risk transfer and captive solutions (including short‑term insurance cell captives) tailored to large, listed corporates.
Lead consulting conversations that shift client focus from transactional insurance procurement to managing the total cost of risk and aligning risk finance with strategic objectives.
Provide regulatory and governance guidance (e.g., SAM / Solvency, local captive regulation).
Business growth & commercial penetration
Achieve and exceed revenue and expansion targets via renewals, upsell to existing clients and by converting Marsh's servicing and broking relationships into Risk Finance opportunities.
Proactively identify new revenue opportunities across Marsh's client base and with external prospects; prepare compelling commercial proposals and business cases.
Collaboration, knowledge transfer & practice development
Transfer knowledge and best practice to early careers colleagues - mentor, coach and develop technical capability in the servicing team.
Stakeholder management & governance
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients (CRO/Head of Risk/Finance), brokers, underwriters, regulators and internal Marsh stakeholders.
Ensure robust governance around captive arrangements, financial reporting and experience accounts, present findings and recommendations to senior client committees.
What you need to have:

CA (SA) advantageous.
5-8 years' relevant experience working with cell captives, contingency policies and captives; demonstrable track record in structuring and executing alternative risk transfer solutions for large or listed companies.
