Position Summary:
Join Thermo Fisher Scientific as a Staff Scientist, Process Development (Process Engineer) in Warrington, UK. Responsibilities:
- Ensure manufacturing capability with processes and products to support the seamless technical design transfer.
- Lead the design and specification of process equipment, ensuring alignment with process requirements, scalability, and compliance/regulatory standards.
- Author and review User Requirement Specifications (URS) in collaboration with Global Technical Operations and Manufacturing Engineering teams to ensure robust, fit-for-purpose system design.
- Drive cross-functional alignment during equipment definition and design phases, acting as the technical interface between process, manufacturing, and engineering stakeholders.
- Own end-to-end vendor selection activities in partnership with Global Procurement, including technical evaluation, bid comparison, and supplier qualification.
- Provide technical oversight during vendor engagement, ensuring equipment designs meet URS, operational, and compliance expectations.
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and commissioning activities to ensure successful equipment delivery and integration.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks related to equipment design, supplier capability, and process integration. Analyse key manufacturing and QC/process control metrics to determine areas for improvement and successfully implement solutions.
- Monitor and trend process control and conduct investigations to improve overall efficiency.
- Provide comprehensive summary results of findings and recommendations to Stakeholders.
- Actively participate in process and operational improvement opportunities to champion a culture of continuous improvement.
- Plan and Conduct Commissioning, IQs, OQs, PQs, PPQs, PVs or equivalent, and cleaning validations to maintain high operational standards.
- Undertake investigations to solve process failures to improve production standards.
- Align with company quality management systems, policies, and procedures to uphold the highest standards of quality.
- Provide leadership to junior engineers, encouraging a collaborative and knowledgeable team environment.
- Take on additional duties and responsibilities as required to meet business needs and drive success.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required
Experience
- 5+ years in a manufacturing environment supporting technical operations, engineering, or similar.
- Experience with ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and/or GMP manufacturing environments is desirable.
- Previous experience of leading and delivering projects.
- Knowledge of manufacturing, packaging, storage, and distribution technology and operations in regulated environments.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment
The role includes desk and workshop based work and active involvement in your team's processes to support regular area Gemba and PPI initiatives. There will be occasions where entering and working from an ultra-clean room environment will be required.
