Job Description
Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Research Center, Vilnius, Lithuania
Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is the world leader in serving science, with annual revenue exceeding $40 billion. Our mission is to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer.
Vilnius Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Research Center is a key R&D site focused on developing and validating advanced analytical technologies. The team ensures that instruments, consumables, and workflows meet defined performance criteria and deliver reliable results for global customers.
Role Overview
As a Validation Scientist, you will contribute to product validation and verification (V&V) activities for ion chromatography (IC) and liquid chromatography (LC) systems, consumables, and application workflows.
You will execute experiments to demonstrate that systems are fit for intended use, based on defined performance criteria and application requirements. This role sits at the interface of R&D, applications, and product development.
Depending on experience level, responsibilities may range from executing validation studies to designing validation strategies and interpreting complex datasets.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute verification and validation studies
Execute experiments that reflect real IC and LC application conditions (primarily food and environmental analysis) and generate scientifically robust, reproducible data. - Demonstrate performance and fitness for intended use
Evaluate systems using key validation parameters. Demonstrate acceptance criteria alignment to application needs and product requirements. - Data analysis and scientific interpretation
Analyze chromatographic datasets using appropriate statistical approaches. Translate data into clear conclusions on system performance, limitations, and improvement opportunities. - Documentation and reporting
Prepare structured validation protocols and reports. Ensure full traceability of experiments, data integrity, and clear documentation of deviations and conclusions. - Cross-functional collaboration
Work closely with R&D, product mangement, and application teams on the assinged projects. Communicate findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
- Hands-on experience with chromatography techniques (IC and/or LC)
- Experience in method development, troubleshooting, and data interpretation
- Familiarity with data analysis tools
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with validation or verification of analytical methods, systems, or workflows
- Understanding of validation concepts such as precision, accuracy, linearity, and robustness
- Knowledge of application areas such as food or environmental analysis (preferred)
- Experience with LC-MS or advanced detection techniques is an advantage
- Exposure to regulated environments (e.g., ISO, GLP, or similar) is beneficial but not required
Key Skills and Competencies
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving in complex experimental environments
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot chromatographic system performance issues
- Structured approach to experimental design and data interpretation
- Clear and effective communication of technical results
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary R&D environment
- High level of ownership, quality focus, and attention to details
