Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to act as a design authority for an engineering discipline with low to medium complexity. Each day, you will complete assignments on small projects or portions of larger projects in a cost-effective manner. You will also showcase your expertise by applying basic design thinking/design for excellence concepts in projects.



This role is contributing to the ELSE (service) business in Xiamen, China.

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard techniques and procedures to perform engineering assignments.
  • Provides technical support for testing, installation, and commissioning activities.
  • Prepares project documentation within one’s scope of deliverables.
  • Actively participates project meetings and resolves any outstanding technical issues to meet contractual obligations.
  • Assists in preparing proposal/presentation of engineering
  • projects/programs (provision of bills of materials, estimated engineering
  • hours, etc.). 
  • Applies basic Design Thinking / Design for Excellence concepts in projects.
  • Actively utilizes checklists to perform design verification according applicable standards and engineering guidelines.
  • Contributes and shares experiences in workshops pertaining to engineering design, tools, and processes. 
  • Shares best practices Lessons-Learned documentation across different projects and disciplines.
  • Ensures that engineering activities comply with required safety regulations and contractual requirements.
  • Supports technical risk assessments and implements resulting actions for one’s projects.
  •  Reports any contract / safety / quality / program / cost issues to Project Manager(s) for resolution.
  • Ensures Bill of Material (BOM) for the project meets contractual obligations; and project gross margin requirements by not generating Project Left-Over Material (PLOM) .
  • Identifies and implements variation requests to support contract claims based on the approval from Project Manager or team leader.

  • Follows work plans and cost estimates provided by the Project Manager or team leader and ensures quality deliverables on time and at targeted cost.

  • Collaborates with the Supply Chain function and the Project Manager(s) to meet the contractual   obligations.
  • Coordinates with Manufacturing and Testing functions to ensure the technical solutions are appropriately manufactured/ staged and tested. 
  • Updates the engineering deliverables as-built.


Qualifications for the role
  • Bachelor degree or above Electrical Engineering 

  • Two plus years experience in electrical engineering, ABB experience is preferred, familiar with ABB MV switchgear or low voltage MNS switchgear.
  • Electrical design Relay protection, factory power supply, power system or equivalent knowledge. Full understanding of engineering process and rule.
  • CET-4 and above Good English listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
  • Have strong communication, coordination and team work ability and self-motivated, can independently deal with, analyze and solve problems.
