Your role and responsibilities

Do you have extensive experience with System 800xA and a strong background in troubleshooting complex process plants? Are you ready to take on a key specialist role where you define automation architecture and develop advanced technical solutions for our customers?

If so, this is your opportunity to make a significant technical impact within ABB’s Life Science business.

ABB delivers large-scale 800xA systems to leading Pharma and Life Science customers in Denmark. The success of these projects is driving a growing pipeline, and you will play a central role in shaping future opportunities. As a technical lead, you will contribute to development projects and work closely with our business development team on upcoming initiatives.

In this role, you will collaborate with ABB engineers, project managers, and service account managers across multiple customer projects in Life Science production environments. As a System 800xA specialist, you will take ownership of complex troubleshooting, guide architectural decisions, and identify optimal solutions.

With your deep expertise in System 800xA, automation architecture, and process control libraries, you will solve high-complexity challenges that others cannot – both for customers and their sub-suppliers.

You can be based in Ballerup, Kalundborg, or Middelfart. However, you should expect to be on-site with customers in Bagsværd and/or Kalundborg at least one day per week, with increased presence during critical project phases.

Your responsibilities

  • Coordination with relevant internal ABB functions for resolution of complex technical issues for customers.

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot on technical issues - evaluation of problem descriptions, analysis of log files, remote diagnostics in installed base, etc.

  • Take the lead in maturing and developing architecture for new projects.

  • Consult the customer with the right solutions based on technical knowledge and support from ABB organization.

  • Develop, test, document and PoC in technical solutions and support your colleagues in executing.


 

Qualifications for the role

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in 800xA with AC800M process in larger size process automation projects.

  • In depth experience with 800xA system and control libraries (e.g. PCDL, PCEL) from troubleshooting and development

  • Solid experience with test, commissioning, and hypercare phases of an automation project, and familiar with typical issues raised during these phases.

  • Experience from ABB R&D organization is an advantage.

  • Experience within Life Science industries and batch management is an advantage.

  • Ability to understand customer requirements and challenges with a service-minded approach.

  • Experience in working either within or together with the L3 support team or L4 R&D.

  • Demonstrating ownership, applying a problem-solving solution-oriented mindset and strong communication skills.

You will be part of our Life Science Engineering team, collaborating with experienced engineers. We are an international group of approx. 50 project engineers in Denmark. In addition, we collaborate with +50 colleagues from the global ABB organization.

 

You will have a fixed base in our office in Ballerup, Kalundborg or Middelfart, where most of your close colleagues are also based. We also offer the possibility of working from home a few days a week.
