Local Trade Compliance Officer

In an international industrial group with complex supply chains and stringent regulatory requirements, Trade Compliance is critical to both business continuity and reputation. We are now looking for a Local Trade Compliance Officer who will take ownership of local compliance while being part of a global professional network.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of regulations, industrial operations, and international trade – and who wants to actively contribute to strengthening and developing the company’s trade compliance framework.

As a Local Trade Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for local trade compliance, acting as a key advisor to business units, logistics, procurement and management at ABB Electrification Norway in Skien. The role combines operational responsibilities with advisory work and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain internal guidelines and procedures for trade compliance.
• Monitor and interpret changes in trade compliance regulations and advise relevant departments
• Prepare and maintain trade compliance documentation including import/export records and tariff classifications
• Contribute to risk assessments, internal controls, and audits
• Provide training and guidance to internal teams on trade compliance procedures and requirements
• Manage customs classifications and ensure accurate harmonized commodity codes for products
• Liaise with external parties including customs authorities, freight forwarders, and legal consultants

• Maintain comprehensive documentation and compliance records in accordance with regulatory requirements
• Support due diligence activities and compliance certifications for new business initiatives
• Maintaining and sharing with colleagues, as appropriate, personal knowledge of all relevant import/export laws and procedures, tariffs, duties, licenses, and restrictions

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Law, Business, International Trade, or related field
• 3-5 years of experience in trade compliance or customs regulations, but graduates are encouraged to apply
• Strong knowledge of import/export regulations and tariff classifications
• Familiarity with the US Export Administration Regulations and global sanctions frameworks.
• Excellent organizational and analytical skills
• Proficiency in English and Norwegian (written and verbal)
• Experience with compliance management systems or ERP software
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
