Product Classification Engineer

Do you want to work at the intersection of technology, regulations, and international trade? ABB is now looking for a Product Classification Engineer who will play a key role in ensuring correct classification of our products, software, and technologies in line with global customs and export control requirements.

The role involves close collaboration with our trade compliance organization, and experience within export control and trade compliance is considered an advantage.

In this role, you will work with:

  • Classification of products, software, and technologies related to both new and existing products
  • Analysis of product information to ensure correct application of classification codes and standards
  • Maintenance and quality assurance of master data, including product descriptions, HTS codes, and ECCN
  • Close collaboration with Trade Compliance Officers,Engineering, Product management and other relevant business units
  • Providing guidance and support on product classification and regulatory requirements

Depending on your experience, you may also take responsibility for:

  • Contributions within export control and sanctions assessments
  • Collaboration with the Trade Compliance Manager (TCO)
  • Further development and improvement of internal processes and procedures within trade compliance
  • Support related to internal controls and documentation activities

We are looking for candidates with:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in International Trade, Supply Chain, Engineering, Economics, or a related field
  • Relevant experience with product classification, master data, or regulatory compliance work
  • A structured and detail‑oriented working approach
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to communicate complex topics clearly

It is an advantage if you also have:

  • Experience within trade compliance, export control, or customs
  • Knowledge of the U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and global sanctions regimes
  • Experience with Global Trade Management systems, such as SAP GTS
