Senior Indirect Tax Analyst, International Indirect Tax Compliance

DESCRIPTION:

Join Amazon's global indirect tax team in London and play a pivotal role in managing one of the most complex areas of Amazon's worldwide tax function, spanning EMEA, LATAM, and APAC. You'll work with AI-assisted tools, collaborate with senior tax leaders across multiple geographies, and directly shape how Amazon tracks and reports indirect tax reserves for hundreds of legal entities worldwide.

As a Tax Analyst on the ITX Compliance team, you will support the FAS5 quarterly close cycle, Amazon's central system for managing indirect tax loss contingencies under US GAAP (ASC 450). Your work will sit at the intersection of tax technical expertise and data-driven process management, where you'll review and challenge reserve positions, prepare VP-level reporting packs, coordinate with issue owners and directors across regions, and drive continuous improvement of critical reporting workflows. This is an opportunity to deepen your expertise in contingency accounting while contributing to a high-visibility programm that is actively investing in automation and innovation.

Key job responsibilities
1. Support the quarterly FAS5 close cycle for indirect tax contingencies across EMEA, LATAM & APAC including data validation, issue owner coordination, and multi-regional reporting;
2. Review and challenge indirect tax reserve and watch-list positions for alignment with US GAAP (ASC 450) recognition thresholds, and ensure FAS5 templates are compliant at each quarter-end and year-end reporting cycle;
3. Assist prepare director- and VP-level reporting packs with variance analysis, portfolio movement summaries, and data quality checks;
4. Coordinate with issue owners and Central VAT Accounting teams to resolve data completeness gaps and classification issues;
5. Maintain and continuously improve FAS5 portal workflows, including access management, and use Excel, the FAS5 portal, and AI-assisted tools to automate recurring reporting tasks;
6. Monitor changes in indirect tax legislation across covered jurisdictions and assess the impact on existing reserve positions and watch-list items;
7. Develop and maintain robust documentation supporting reserve positions, including technical memorandum, exposure analyses, and supporting schedules;
8. Liaise with internal stakeholders (accounting, legal, tax planning) and address audit queries related to the FAS5 process, providing clear and well-organised responses;
9. Support broader ITX Financial Health activities, including VAT balance sheet reconciliation, ageing analysis, and compliance systems management.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor's degree
- Knowledge of strong understanding of tax compliance principles, regulations, and reporting requirements across jurisdictions
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level
- Experience working in a large public accounting firm or multi-national corporate tax department
- Experience in tax with an EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) focus
- Experience a compliance focused tax role in a multinational and/or professional organization

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Experience researching indirect tax issues including taxability of products and services
- Knowledge of at least one data-focused technology tool, such as Python, SQL, Alteryx, Amazon QuickSight, or similar
- professional tax, accounting or legal qualification (e.g., Chartered Accountant (CA), Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA), Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA), Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) or similar)
