Senior Software Development Engineer, AWS CloudWatch, AWS Observability Analytics

United States , Bellevue
Salary: $168,100 – $227,400 Annually
Full-time

DESCRIPTION:

CloudWatch Logs is one of the highest-scale logging services at AWS, trusted by millions of customers to reliably capture, store, and protect their operational and security logs. We operate large, multi-region distributed systems handling an enormous volume of data every day.

We're looking for a senior Software Development Engineer to be a technical leader on the team. You'll own our hardest distributed-systems problems end to end - setting the technical direction, driving the designs that unlock the next order of magnitude of scale, and raising the bar for how the whole team builds and operates. This is a role for someone who wants to shape where the team is going, not just execute against it.

Key job responsibilities
- Own the technical vision and multi-year roadmap for major areas of CloudWatch Logs, and drive alignment on it with tech leads, PMs, and leadership.
- Lead the design of complex, high-scale distributed systems, making the architecture decisions that define how our services scale and evolve.
- Mentor and grow engineers across the team - through design reviews, code reviews, and hands-on technical coaching - raising the collective bar.
- Identify the highest-leverage problems and systemic improvements, then rally the team around solving them.
- Partner with senior leadership to turn business and customer priorities into concrete technical strategy and commitments.
- Drive operational excellence at the architectural level, designing out whole classes of recurring issues rather than patching them.

About the team
AWS values diverse experiences. Even if you do not meet all of the preferred qualifications and skills listed in the job description, we encourage candidates to apply. If your career is just starting, hasn't followed a traditional path, or includes alternative experiences, don't let it stop you from applying

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
