Why we need this role
We are seeking a skilled and customer-focused Data Center Engineer to support critical financial services infrastructure across colocation and data center environments in Japan. The successful candidate will be responsible for the deployment, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of data center infrastructure, while working closely with Japanese and international financial customers, data center providers, project managers, and engineering teams.
This role requires strong technical knowledge of data center operations, infrastructure, and colocation services, combined with excellent communication skills in both Japanese and English.
What you will do
- Install, rack and stack, cabling, and commissioning network Devices, servers, and infrastructure equipment within data center and colocation environments.
- Perform physical infrastructure deployments, including patching of local and international network connections.
- Coordinate and manage data center services such as:
- Cross-connect orders
- Rack allocations
- Power provisioning
- Remote hands activities
- Access requests and scheduling with Datacenter Providers
- Inventory management and documentation
- Act as a key liaison between customers, data center providers, 3rd party venders and internal stakeholders(project managers, engineers, Service assurance, capacity planning etc.).
- Maintain infrastructure implementation projects for Japanese and international financial services customers.
- Troubleshoot Datacenter Infrastructures such as hardware, cabling, WAN and LAN connectivity, etc.
- Implement initial configuration and validation of network devices and Unix/Linux-based systems.
- Maintain accurate documentation including ,Rack elevation diagrams, Cabling and patching schematics, Asset inventories, inventory management , Installation and operational procedures
- Work closely with Japanese Datacenter providers and Stock Exchanges to coordinate infrastructure deployments and operational activities.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with operational, security, and change- management procedures.
- Participate in data center audits, inventory reviews, and infrastructure lifecycle activities.
What we're looking for
Must haves:
- Business-level proficiency in Japanese and English.
- 5–10 years of experience in data center, infrastructure, or related engineering roles.
- Experience supporting exchange colocation, data center, and trading/capital markets environments.
- Strong knowledge of networking, servers, and data center operations.
- Hands-on experience with hardware installation, rack-and-stack, cabling, patching, and troubleshooting.
- Experience supporting financial services infrastructure, particularly low-latency environments, is preferred.
- Understanding of financial market infrastructure and operational requirements is an advantage.
- Experience working with Japanese and international clients in multicultural environments.
- Willingness to work shifts, support occasional out-of-hours activities, and travel as required.
Nice to have:
- Industry certificates such as - Cisco CCNA, Network +, Linux LPIC-1
- JLPT N2 or N1 certification
- Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality.
- Customer-focused with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Able to work independently and collaborate effectively within global teams.
- Organized, with strong documentation and process management skills.
