The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Projects Directorate (PJ)/Sustainability, Impact and Advisory Department (SAI) - Sustainability & Climate Office (S&CO) - Policy and Strategy Unit (PO&ST) at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a Gender Expert *.
This is a full-time temporary position at grade 5.

In this role, you will help shape the Bank's social development agenda, with a strong emphasis on advancing gender equality. You'll play a central part in strengthening the Bank's commitment to environmental, climate, and social standards by building effective networks and ensuring our gender approach aligns with EU Commission policies and the practices of other Multilateral Development Banks. Working closely with colleagues across the institution, you will drive efforts to scale up the Bank's impact under the Gender Action Plan III, ensuring that gender considerations are fully integrated and coherent with broader climate and environmental priorities. This is an opportunity to influence policy at a strategic level and contribute to meaningful, long‑term change.
Gender in finance is becoming an increasingly strategic priority for the Bank, with gender‑focused lending growing significantly in recent years and expected to expand further under the newly approved third Gender Action Plan. As the Bank prepares its updated social narrative for 2026 and beyond, gender will play a central role alongside major EU initiatives such as the Social Pillar Action Plan and the EU Anti‑Poverty Strategy. Ensuring coherence across these evolving policy frameworks will be essential. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to that alignment and help shape the Bank's future direction in a rapidly developing field. Occasional travel outside Luxembourg may be required, adding an international dimension to the work.
Internal contacts: A range of internal stakeholders across the Bank, most notably within and across PJ but also including the Operations Directorate (OPS), the Bank's Global Operations (GLO) and others.
External contacts: A range of external stakeholders including fellow Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs), relevant parts of the European Commission, Non-governmental organisations (NGOs), etc.

Representation, communications and partnerships
• University degree (minimum an equivalent to a Bachelor) in a relevant field (preferably sociology, social anthropology, social development, development studies, gender studies, development economics or another relevant discipline).
• Minimum 5 years of experience focussed on enhancing the gender equality impact of investments in infrastructure, financial intermediaries and/or corporates within an international development and/or financial institution, including public or private sector institutions. Experience in the EU would be a significant advantage.
• Sound knowledge of EU and International Gender Equality policy, legislative frameworks and practices of international development and financial institutions.
• Excellent knowledge of English and/or French (***), with a good command of the other. (Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage).

(***) Unless stated explicitly as a required qualification, a good command of French is not a pre-requisite for hire. As both English and French are however official working languages of the EIB, proficiency in both languages is a pre-requisite for your future career development. Any language clause in your contract must be fulfilled in order for you to be eligible for a promotion (either via the annual appraisal cycle or via an internal selection process). Proficiency is understood to mean the attainment of level 5 of the Inter Institutional language courses, corresponding to B1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).
