European Investment Bank - EIB

About the EIB

The European Investment Bank is the lending arm of the European Union. We are the biggest multilateral financial institution in the world and one of the largest providers of climate finance. Since its establishment in 1958, the EU bank has invested over a trillion euros. While climate action is a part of everything we do, our activities focus on the following priority areas: climate and environment, cohesion, innovation, digital and human capital, small and medium-sized businesses, sustainable cities and regions, and sustainable energy and natural resources. The EIB works closely with other EU institutions to foster European integration, promote the development of the EU and support EU policies in over 160 countries around the world. Through EIB Global, set up in 2022 to increase the impact of our development finance, we help address global challenges and create growth and opportunity in all continents.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

As the bank of the European Union, we are committed to the European Union’s objectives and values and aspire to live up to one of its founding principles – United in diversity.

At the EIB, we put diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) at the heart of who we are and what we do. We believe that these make us a performing and innovative organisation fulfilling its core mission of improving lives and promoting long-term sustainable growth.

We build an inclusive culture of diverse voices, one that is collaborative, respectful and kind, where colleagues feel they belong, and no one is left behind.

Our commitment to DEI starts at the top of the organisation and integrates into all aspects of our operations, applying them to our people-facing policies, procedures, processes, and practices. Our Employee Resources Groups on gender, LGBTIQ, disability & neurodiversity, and ethnicity are all sponsored by one or more Management Committee members and our network of diversitychampions amplify our bank-wide DEI implementation throughout all our businesses. Our DEI Council ensures accountability at all levels and monitoring of progress.

About our LGBTIQ Inclusion Network: EIB Proud

EIB Proud is a network of EIB Group staff who identify as LGBTIQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer) and their allies. The network aims to support our organisation in its efforts to become a more diverse and inclusive employer of choice, and to mainstream diversity, equity and inclusion into the EIB Group’s activities and business.
