About the business unit
Building on our delivery of major HVDC projects and a strong future pipeline, our Transmission & Distribution division is expanding and we are seeking an experienced HVDC Engineer to join our UK HVDC team. You will play a key role in delivering technical design and assurance for HVDC‑based energy infrastructure projects.
Workload will vary in line with business needs but will primarily include the following responsibilities:
• Optioneering, feasibility studies, risk assessment, consenting support and high‑level cost estimates
• Preparation of functional specifications
• Review of bid documentation
• Technical assurance of EPC design documentation
• Site visits and witnessing of factory acceptance tests
• Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
• Participation in technical discussions with OEMs
• Provision of technical services or support to OEMs, developers and lenders
• Site pre‑commissioning and commissioning supervision
• Maintaining awareness of HVDC technological developments
• Supporting business development and client relationship management
• Identification of key interfaces and leading meetings or issue resolution
• Review of type, routine and site acceptance test requirements and methodologies
Essential:
• Degree in Electrical Engineering
• Extensive HVDC experience, ideally gained with an OEM or TSO
• Strong understanding of HVDC design principles, delivery activities and programmes, performance guarantees, station layouts, rating studies, primary equipment and system studies
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills
• Proven ability to produce clear technical reports
• Understanding of HVDC technology readiness levels and market trends
• Interest in professional networking and participation in industry bodies (e.g. CIGRE, IET, IEEE)
Desirable:
• Experience in both onshore and offshore HVDC system design
• Experience with HVDC control and protection functions, including protection schemes, operating modes and interlocking
• Experience related to dispatch systems, condition monitoring and harmonic performance design
