  • Diagnose and repair instrument and subsystem issues, including component-level problems where appropriate; support customers and other field service engineers through resolution.
  • Travel, sometimes on short notice or outside standard hours, to address service needs and assist colleagues.
  • Build constructive working relationships with customers, system users, application scientists, and Thermo Fisher teams; communicate clearly and manage expectations, including during high-pressure situations.
  • Train customers and users in system operation and maintenance, and contribute to team training as a technical resource.
  • Complete accurate field service reports promptly and provide useful feedback to product quality teams.
  • Help update and correct system documentation, and document or recommend solutions for unusual or recurring problems.
  • Work in accordance with Thermo Fisher Scientific’s 4i Values and maintain appropriate confidentiality for customer and company information.

Required

  • Associate degree or technical/undergraduate training in electronics, physics, engineering, computer science, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Typically 3–5 years of relevant hands-on technical experience, or an equivalent combination of skills and experience.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, organizational, and time-management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to make sound decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Clear interpersonal communication, teamwork, and customer-service skills, including the ability to remain professional under pressure.
  • Proficiency in a Windows software environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, including regionally and internationally as business needs require.
  • Valid passport.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lb (18 kg) without assistance.

Preferred

  • Experience installing, operating, troubleshooting, repairing, or calibrating complex analytical instruments such as SEM, TEM, FIB, probers Equipment, XPS, or similar systems.
  • Experience with ultra-high-vacuum (UHV), high-voltage, or other vacuum-based systems.
  • Experience using oscilloscopes and digital multimeters.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical or system schematics.
  • Experience diagnosing complex systems and subsystems down to the component level.
