Department

Ranked as one of the leading City practices with a team of over 40 lawyers (including 11 partners), we are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and commercially astute individual to join the Finance Group, which comprises seven different specialisms. These are:

• Leveraged Finance
• Infrastructure Finance
• Fund Finance
• Real Estate Finance
• Specialty & Structured Finance (including Securitisation)
• Restructuring & Insolvency
• Derivatives & Structured Products

The Role

Travers Smith is recruiting a Paralegal to join our award-winning Finance Group on a fixed term basis. As a paralegal you will be expected to provide support to lawyers and partners within the team. You will proactively contribute to the department and, ultimately, the firm's success by actively seeking to anticipate the needs of the fee earning lawyers and knowledge counsel in the team, in addition to having a full understanding and supporting the crucial administrative processes that help the team function to the best of its ability.

Key Responsibilities

As a paralegal your key responsibilities will include, document management (collating, drafting, reviewing and analysis); legal research; production of business development materials; and assisting fee earners/ trainees / knowledge counsel with specific tasks and projects.

• Assist with transaction documents, including production, organization, and preparation of transaction bibles.
• Create binders, amend documents, print, copy, check, scan, and distribute files.
• Archive and dispose of documents in line with department protocols.
• Proofread legal transaction documentation for sense, consistency, cross-referencing, definitions, formatting, and typographical errors.
• Perform legal research using various legal research tools for case law, legislation, commentary, and practical guidance.
• Conduct both legal and non-legal factual research, including company and business information.
• Assist with due diligence tasks, including reviewing and analysing documents and minor drafting of due diligence reports and contract summaries.
• Act as the interface between key internal stakeholders, including fee earners in other practice areas.
• Provide support to partners, associates, senior associates, and senior counsels.
• Maintain departmental know-how resources by uploading, correctly labelling, and organising documents.
• Handle chargeable work, including contacts with clients.
• Perform other ad hoc duties where necessary.

Personal Specification - Experience, Knowledge & Skills

Essential

• Law Degree or other undergraduate degree plus the GDL.
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency with MS Word and PowerPoint.

Desirable

• Previous experience working in a similar role (preferably at least 3 months)
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple streams of work efficiently and maintain performance under pressure.
• Strong stakeholder influencing and relationship-building skills.
• Good people management abilities.
• Naturally collaborative and solutions-focused; capable of working independently while also effective in teamwork settings.
• Self-motivated and proactive, with a willingness to anticipate and meet the needs of those supported.
• Responsible for assigned projects and tasks, maintaining confidentiality and sensitivity where required.
• Flexible in adjusting hours to meet operational needs, and adept at balancing multiple assignments, shifting priorities, and competing deadlines.
• Experience working autonomously as well as collaboratively.
• Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive matters efficiently.
• Completion of the Legal Practice Course (LPC) or SQE.
