As Data Privacy Counsel, you'll play a pivotal role in protecting the privacy rights of Tesco Mobile customers and colleagues while enabling the business to achieve its strategic ambitions. Acting as our Data Protection Officer (DPO), you'll be the trusted expert for all things privacy, providing commercially focused legal guidance, shaping our approach to data protection, and ensuring compliance in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

This is a high-impact role where you'll work across a wide range of business areas, influencing decision-making at all levels and helping to embed privacy by design into everything we do. You'll lead on complex privacy matters, regulatory engagement, incident management and governance activity, while also driving key projects, developing privacy capability across the business, and supporting emerging areas such as AI governance.

The must haves

In order to be considered, you must have the following experience;

• Qualified lawyer with at least five years' privacy law experience

• Expert knowledge of data protection and privacy legislation including GDPR, PECR and DUAA

• Proven ability to provide practical, risk-based privacy advice in a commercial environment

• Experience leading significant privacy projects and engaging with senior stakeholders and governance forums

• Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to work independently and act as a trusted advisor

The other stuff we are looking for

We'd also love you to bring;

• Experience working within a technology, telecommunications or digital business

• Experience operating in a regulated environment

• Strong understanding of privacy risk and data processing activities

• Experience developing privacy guidance, training and awareness programmes

• Knowledge of AI governance principles and their interaction with data privacy
