200 Students Staged A Walkout In Support Of Terrorised Lesbian Classmate
November 18, 2019A lesbian student who was for years terrorized and punished by school administration finally spoke out and 200 of her classmates protested in support of her, according to ‘LGBTQ Nation’.
Migali Rodriguez had a girlfriend when she was in ninth-grade and after her school found out they told both girls that they have to end their relationship or they would out them to their parents. The two young girls agreed. What followed was two years where the two were followed by teachers and told they were going to hell.
After struggling and dreading school, Rodriguez wrote a letter and came out to her parents and explained what had been happening to her in school. She immediately changed schools.
Shortly after ‘Buzzfeed News’ published an article about young Migali, 200 of her classmates staged a walkout.
“I never would’ve imagined Amat to be an environment like this,” said one student, who didn’t want to be named. “Once I started to read about the article I was in full shock. I decided to walk out to stand up for her.”
Another student said that teachers were there and they supervised, but they didn’t stop the students from protesting.
“I decided to walk out because I wanted to take a stand,” a second unnamed student said. “I didn’t agree with what the administration did with the situation and I feel like it was a good idea for the student body to stand as one to show our support for Magali.”
Bishop Amat Memorial High School issued a statement stating that “Bishop Amat High Schoool is committed to providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students, irrespective of their sexual orientation,” adding the school complies with “the accepted teachings of the Catholic Church,” which are that same-sex relationships are sinful because they are not open to procreation and that gays and lesbians should practice chastity.
