2021 UK Census Might Include LGBT+ Questions For First Time

The next UK Census in 2021 might include LGBT-specific questions for the first time, reports iNews.

A government paper requested these new questions so that the Office of National Statistics (ONS) can acquire more accurate data about LGBT+ people in the UK.

“(There is a) clear and significant requirement for better information on sexual orientation,” the paper notes.

These new questions would support new LGBT-inclusive policies and better inform government decisions.

The ONS has lead an independent survey ahead of the census to gather if the British public thought these new census questions would be appropriate.

Of 15,595 households surveyed only 1 percent said they would stop completing the census if asked about their sexual orientation, while 70 percent of those thought it was acceptable and 80 percent said they would answer correctly.
