5 easy ways to incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle

5 easy ways to incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle

July 31, 2018

1. Pay with cash, not card

An experiment from Cornell University found that people who paid with credit cards were more likely to pick up extra junk food on the way to the check-out. The theory is that you’re less likely to buy unnecessary items if you can visibly see the cash your parting with – you might be less inclined to break up that £50 note for a KitKat.

2. Drinking more water can help your metabolism

A study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism found that the more water you drank the higher your metabolic rates were. Researches estimated that increasing water intake by about 6 cups (1.5 litres) would burn an extra 17,400 calories over the course of the year.

3. Send yourself diet reminders

A great way to keep your diet on track is to send yourself reminders and motivators. Set up reminders on your phone for each meal time, or at the end of each week, reminding you why you’re doing this and how much progress you’ve already made.

4. You don’t have to be afraid to eat more

As long as the food you’re eating is good, healthy food, you can eat as much as you like. “The key is to make sure the foods you reach for include avocado, eggs, salmon, [lean] red meat, and cantaloupe,” says yoga instructor Lauren Imparato, founder and CEO of I.Am.You studio in New York City.

5. Fend off that hunger

“Soak a teaspoon of fenugreek seeds in two cups of water and leave it overnight. First thing in the morning, drink the water and eat the fenugreek. Although it will be a bit bitter, it helps curb appetite and aids detoxification. This tactic has been used since ancient times as an Ayurvedic or natural treatment and it’s just now beginning to gain mainstream attention,” says Maneet Chauhan, a resident judge on Food Network’s Chopped.
