Recognising the symptoms of being overworked can be crucial to your wellbeing. Being stressed out can lead to an assortment of mental and physical health problems. To help you out, here are five common signs of being overworked:
1. You can’t sleep
Sleep should come easy after a
long day. If you find yourself up late worrying over work or other things it
could be a sign of anxiety or depression. If sleep is becoming a real issue for
you, you shouldn’t hesitate in seeing a doctor. When you don’t get enough sleep,
simple everyday tasks can become overwhelming, your memory can falter, and your
brain won’t be able to work properly. Try cutting back on alcohol and caffeinated
beverages to start, set a proper bedtime, and avoid too much screen-time
beforehand.
2. Your hair is falling out
Your hair can actually begin to
fall out in clumps if you’re too stressed, it’s a condition known as alopecia
areata. It’s caused by
your body’s immune system attacking your hair follicles. Most of the time it
isn’t dangerous, but it is heavily associated with stress.
3. You have chronic fatigue
A common sign of being burnt out
is a complete and total lack of energy. You’ll start by feeling tired and lethargic
most days, but it can develop into a feeling of physical and emotional exhaustion.
4. You can’t focus
You’re easily distracted and
forgetful. If you continue being overworked this will only get worse to the
point where you won’t be able to finish anything and your work will begin to
pile up.
5. You experience physical symptoms of burn out
Physical symptoms include: chest pain, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, gastrointestinal pain, dizziness, fainting, and/or headaches. If you’re feeling any of these symptoms it’s important to get medically assessed.
If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, seek out your GP and form a plan to better manage your stress and workload.
