5 simple ways to perfect your CV
August 1, 2024Having no luck in your search for a job? Follow these quick and easy tips to make sure your CV is as perfect as possible before sending it to potential employers. Simply by making these small changes, you could be on your way to achieving your dream job!

1) Make it Easy to Read
Most employers receive dozens of applications a day. In order to be noticed, you have to stand out among the crowd. That means no formulaic and repetitive sentences, and no confusing layouts. Keep it contained to one page with the crucial information (anything pertinent to the job you are applying for) at the top, and necessary additions (other qualifications/experience) towards the bottom. Accessibility can make or break a job application.
2) Get a Second Opinion
You might be thinking your CV is already perfect and that there is nothing to improve. However, there’s nothing to lose in showing it to friends and family to get their perspective. Whether it's noticing a grammar mistake you may have missed or suggesting other ways to format the information you’re providing, it’s always worth seeing things from a different perspective. Another pair of eyes might just be exactly what you need.
3) Demonstrate Industry Insight
Employers want to know that the person they are hiring is knowledgeable and well-versed in the ins and outs of their company. There’s room to go into more detail in a cover letter, but your CV should also feature information pertaining to what you will bring to the company to help foster progress. Do your research beforehand and make sure you know what skills the business is looking for. This will also help prepare you for the interview stage!
4) Include a Photograph
It feels like an insignificant aspect of your CV – after all, you’re not being judged on your appearance (unless you’re applying for a modelling career). However, research has shown the inclusion of a photograph means employers are more likely to consider your CV. It adds a personable touch to the application, allowing them to see you and imagine you more clearly in the role. Make sure you choose a professional-looking headshot, and a recent photograph if possible.
